Dessert & Sparkling wine from Croatia

Champagne, Cava, Prosecco, Spumante, Croatia also has the tastiest bubbles, or "mjehurici". However, there is no own word like in Italy and Spain. Bubbles come from almost all of Croatia and are also made from many different grape varieties. Pinot Grigio and Nero, Babić, Malvasia, Chardonnay etc. There is even a delicious sparkling wine with old Plešivica grape varieties such as Belina, Šipelj and Kraljevina, combined with Riesling and Chardonnay.

Dessert wines are often light-to-semi-sweet wines, as the name implies for dessert. Insidiously delicious for dessert lovers and chocolate snobs....

Istria

Made from the Istrian Malvasia, wine producer Coronica makes a lovely fresh 'bubble' for your terrace. Served chilled, it's a fantastic thirst-quencher or an ideal gift when packaged in an original wooden box. Nice to give! And when it comes to dessert wine from Istria, Muskat Momjanski is the ideal semi-sweet accompaniment to your dessert. Fruit salads, ice cream, lemon cake....a beautiful companion made by the winery Kozlovic.

Central and South Dalmatia

Testament Winery makes a festive or perhaps romantic sparkling rosé , the Opolo Brut from the Babić grape. As an aperitif but also great with oysters or a Spanish Gazpacho. With a matching wooden box a very original gift for a jubilee, a wedding, New Year or as a Christmas gift. They also make from the Babić grape a sweet dessert wine "Prošek" that is irresistible with chocolate and chocolate desserts. But beware, only 4000 bottles are made annually so very exclusive.

Plešivica

This wine region, located not far from the bustling Zagreb, naturally also has its sparkling wines, if desired as rosé. A real party wine or for a sparkling apéro. Delicious with snacks, starters, cheese, as far as we are concerned also tapas or sushi! Made by winery Korak with the famous grapes Chardonnay or in the case of the rosé, Pinot Noir. Winemaker Kolarić Coletti takes a slightly different approach. He makes the Coletti Blanc Nature from mostly indigenous grapes like Belina, Šipelj and Kraljevinamet in addition to some Chardonnay and Riesling. They also make a delicious Coletti Grigio Nature, from Pinot Grigio. You can drink this one really nice and cold!

PET NAT

Prefer something different? A sparkling bubbly but not too much alcohol. Would you also prefer a thirst-quenching and refreshing drink for a sultry summer's day? Then try a PET NAT from Coletti. PET NAT means petillant naturel (naturally effervescent) and is made in almost every wine country nowadays and is a direct hit! In Zagreb, on the coast in Istria, but also in Paris, for example, it is already very popular. However, it is not a new product, it has been known since the late Middle Ages and came from an accident. Wine grapes were harvested in late summer and autumn. The juice was then bottled and survived the winter until spring arrived. The warmer temperatures caused new fermentation and the increased pressure made the bottles jump. So keep it cool! Also, so it is not Champagne, no yeast and sugar are added.
