Coral wine Croatia
The Coral Wine project is the first and only underwater wine cellar specialised in ageing wines in the sea. With 8 years of experience and a yearly production of about 15.000 bottles from different winemakers, Coral Wine is also the biggest underwater ageing project in the world. Until today they have tested over 500 labels from 150 different winemakers from 11 different countries.
Wines are immersed at 15-30 m in the Adriatic Sea, on the shell farm near the island of Pag, Croatia. Every bottle is exposed to a large amount of water energy that flows around the bottle, being influenced by the sea currents and natural sources that carry corals, algae and other marine organisms that stick to bottles. Wines are aged for 250-700 days (on average 12 months), depending on the type of wine and it's characteristics.
The constant temperature, the water pressure and the lack of oxygen influence the taste of wine making it softer and rounder, yet still full of aromas. Coral wines are not just extremely "good looking", but are also delicious and therefore, certainly worth the try!
