Pošip is a truly local variety that was discovered 150 years ago by a farmer in the village of Smokvica on the island of Korčula. This is also where Black Island Winery is located today and where the best Pošip locations are to be found. There are in total about 200 vineyards in Smokvica located on 40-160 meters above the sea level.
Grapes for this wines are sourced from 25 local family owned vineyards who have been growing grapes for decades. Grapes for Merga Victa are carefully selected from 15+ year old vineyards, from three different types of soil (red, sandy and rocky) in order to preserve the right harmony in wine.
Harvest & Vinification:
Harvest took place towards the end of August, during the night. Manually harvested grapes were then cooled and further selected in the cellar. Pressed lightly. Fermented 3-4 weeks at 15° C, matured for two months on fine lees in the stainless steal.
