Local grape variety from the South Dalmatia. Strong, aromatic wine with nice balance of acids and alcohol.
Originally from Smokvica on the island of Korčula (South Dalmatia), today it's grown widely across the whole Dalmatia. Some of it's best examples are to be found on Korčula itself as well as on the neighboring peninsula Pelješac.
What to expect: It's known for being typically strong, aromatic Dalmatian wine with a nice balance of acids and alcohol. It's aromas often remind of figs and dried apricots, peach, apples and citrus with hints of Mediterranean herbs. Color is usually medium gold.
Pair it with: Grilled fish and other seafood (octopus, squid,...), cured meat, matured cheese, marinated poultry.
